Solana Labs, the company behind the development of the Solana blockchain, has announced the launch of its highly anticipated mobile phone, Saga. The announcement was made during a live event hosted by Solana Mobile, the company’s mobile division. According to the announcement, the Saga smartphone was designed to compete with flagship products from major players in the industry, such as Apple’s iPhone, Google’s Pixel, and Samsung’s Galaxy.

Initially announced in 2022, the Saga smartphone will be available for pre-order in May 2023 with a price tag of $1,000. Solana Mobile touted Saga as the world’s first crypto smartphone built on the Android operating system. The phone was designed to modernize how people interact with their digital assets for the sake of usability and increased security, as per Solana Mobile’s statement. The result is a sleek and beautifully designed flagship Android phone with premium components.

The Saga smartphone was built by OSOM, a privacy-focused tech company. It features a Snapdragon 8+ Gen mobile platform that offers users speed to conduct several tasks in combination with an “integrated secure element” called OSOM’s Seed Vault. In addition, the phone will come with a high-performance chip and 512GB storage packed under a 6.67” OLED screen and a 120HZ refresh rate. The battery can hold a 4,110 mAh charge, which should keep the phone running for hours.

According to OSOM, the Saga smartphone features trusted vanilla Android 13 paired with unique features like their patented Seed Vault, which brings crypto self-custody to your pocket in a way that no one has done before. This means users can sign transactions on-device with the ease and familiarity of biometric security. Solana’s dApp Store gives users access to all the blockchain-powered services they need, in addition to Google’s Play Store.

Solana’s token, SOL, has reacted positively to the announcement. As of this writing, it has recorded a 3% profit in 24 hours and a 21% profit over the past 30 days.
