South Africa’s primary power supplier, Eskom, has announced changes to its load shedding schedule for the upcoming Easter long weekend. To accommodate the public’s needs during this festive period, Eskom will aim to suspend load shedding during daytime hours on Sunday and Monday, implementing lower stages of outages throughout the weekend.

From 4 p.m. on Wednesday, 5th April, Stage 4 load shedding will be in effect until 5 a.m. on Friday, 7th April. Following this, the power utility will implement varying stages of load shedding up to Stage 3 on a daily basis until 5 a.m. on Tuesday next week. Eskom’s goal is to suspend load shedding between 5 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Sunday, 9th April, and Monday, 10th April.

As of now, breakdowns account for 16,644 MW of generating capacity, while the generating capacity out of service for planned maintenance has been reduced to 6,400 MW in preparation for the upcoming winter season. Over the past 24 hours, a generation unit at the Arnot Power Station was returned to service. However, during the same period, generating units at Arnot, Lethabo, Kriel, and Tutuka power stations were taken offline for repairs.

Delays in returning units to service at Kusile, Medupi, and Tutuka power stations have contributed to the ongoing capacity constraints. Eskom will strive to minimize the impact of load shedding on the public during the Easter weekend, and users are advised to stay informed on the latest schedule updates.
