Polestar 2 owners can now enjoy streaming video while charging their vehicles, along with an updated version of Apple CarPlay that offers a glimpse into the future of in-car technology.

Polestar, the innovative Swedish electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer, has unveiled its latest software update, P2.9, bringing exciting new features to its Polestar 2 model. The over-the-air (OTA) upgrade, the 15th since 2020, introduces YouTube streaming capabilities and an enhanced version of Apple CarPlay that showcases the potential of multi-display functionality in future vehicles.

YouTube Streaming Comes to Polestar 2:

Polestar 2 owners can now enjoy the popular video streaming service, YouTube, directly on their vehicle’s infotainment system. This update marks the first time YouTube is integrated into Polestar’s native Android Automotive operating system. Last month, Google announced its plans to bring YouTube to vehicles using Android Automotive, beginning with Polestar and Volvo cars.

With the addition of YouTube, Polestar enhances the driving experience by providing occupants with access to a vast library of entertainment content while their vehicle is charging. This move demonstrates Polestar’s commitment to embracing the era of connected cars and offering cutting-edge features to its customers.

Enhanced Apple CarPlay Functionality:

Polestar’s latest software update also brings exciting improvements to Apple CarPlay, Apple’s popular phone projection system. Previously introduced via a software upgrade in 2022, CarPlay now receives “extended functionality” with P2.9. Drivers will be able to answer phone calls using steering wheel controls while using CarPlay, ensuring a safer and more convenient driving experience.

Furthermore, Apple Maps, Apple’s navigation app, will now be projected onto the gauge cluster display behind the steering wheel. This represents one of the first instances of CarPlay utilizing two screens simultaneously in a vehicle. The enhanced integration of Apple CarPlay demonstrates Polestar’s dedication to integrating advanced technologies and providing a seamless and intuitive user experience for its customers.

A Glimpse into the Future:

Polestar’s adoption of multi-display functionality in CarPlay offers a preview of what Apple’s next-generation version of CarPlay may look like. Apple had previously announced its plans to revolutionize its in-car phone projection system, promising deeper integration and support for multiple displays. While the rollout has been relatively slow, Polestar’s implementation showcases the potential of Apple’s vision and raises anticipation for future developments in automotive technology.

Revolutionizing Energy Usage Monitoring:

In addition to the entertainment and connectivity upgrades, Polestar is enhancing its Range Assistant app, allowing drivers to monitor their energy usage more accurately. The company has incorporated a revised algorithm into the app, which factors in changes in environmental and other variables that influence efficiency. This improvement ensures that the projected range displayed by the app aligns closely with real-world driving conditions, enhancing driver confidence and the overall EV ownership experience.

Polestar’s commitment to continuous software updates showcases the brand’s dedication to providing its customers with the latest technological advancements. By leveraging OTA capabilities, Polestar can enhance the infotainment controls and other creature comforts of its vehicles, ensuring a future-proof ownership experience.
